Photo(s) of the day

Here’s another of my own recent photos.  I just purchased myself a Canon G7x.  Small, compact camera with an image sensor pretty close in size to that in a DSLR.  You know what that means– shallow depth of field and actual bokeh from a compact camera.  The lens is pretty amazing– F1.8 when wide open and still at F2.8 at full zoom.  And, it’s not the most comfortable fit, but the camera does fit in the pocket of my khakis.  Pretty much all my recent Manassas battlefield photos were taken with the camera.

Here’s a good example of the shallow depth of field (and of my beautiful daughter).  I actually haven’t been able to quite figure out how to best consistently achieve this with this camera, so I still need to do a little experimenting, but great stuff from a small camera:

Then again, you sure can’t beat a fast prime lens on a DSLR (photo after Sarah’s dance recital yesterday):
