Nothing grinds my gears more than the “it’s just what I believe” defense. No. It’s something you probably heard somebody say one time and it fit with your already drawn conclusion.

Jezebel has an edited version of this and then of the parody (replacing evolution with math). The USA contestants reminded me of TTU freshman seminar I had way back when–this came up as they were clearly warned to the reality that “they” taught evolution at Tech. Why? The students concurred that because some other folks believe it, that it is why it is taught. I then suggested gently that evolution is foundational to pretty much every social and physical science. Good times.
