Thursday Nights

Something I should’ve done a while ago, I finally did this week– I stopped watching the Office.  Damn, what a shell of its former self this show has become.  It’s depressing that they won’t just put it out of its misery already.   The good news is, I’ve now started watching Parks and Recreation, which is just as entertaining as the Office back at its peak.  If you haven’t given it a try, you really ought to.  If you have any doubts, just watch:

I never watched more than an episode or three of the Office. And that was because I saw the entire BBC series with Ricky Gervais first. Thanks to our English brother-in0-law we have seen several BBC series through to completion, and they were great (Life on Mars, The Office, Extras, Gavin and Stacey, Torchwood). The most annoying thing about these shows is that they often run for only 12 or 13 episodes. That’s it! Series is done. But that actually part of what enables these shows to be so good. They don’t run out of ideas, for one thing, But they aren’t aiming to reach 100 episodes so they can be syndicated, they are not afraid to kill off a main character, and eccentric or colorful characters don’t have time to devolve into cartoons.
