Palin’s speech

I've been switching around all the news networks after the speech, and it is quite clear that Palin's speech is a big hit with all the Talking Heads.  There's no doubt that Sarah Palin is a charismatic candidate who can expertly deliver a speech (which she didn't even write), but does that make her qualified to be VP all of a sudden?  Sure Obama gives great speeches, but 1) he actually writes them, and 2) much more importantly, he managed to make it all the way through to win the Democratic nomination, which he simply could not have done if all he had to him was good speeches.

A couple brief substantive comments.  First, as a parent of a special needs child, I actually just got really annoyed with her appeal directly to me.  Time and time again, it is Republicans who cut funding that helps children and families with special needs.  Secondly, that little bit about Democrats caring more about reading Al Qaeda their rights than protecting Americans really gets me.  Torturing people and giving them absolutely no chance to contest their detainment does not make America safer.  It is quite well documented.  As if somehow wanting to make sure the people we accuse of being terrorists actually are terrorists is somehow a bad thing.  And as for torture, it is well proven to be quite effective at eliciting false confessions.

Oh yeah, and Palin still is a far-right ideologue who in no way possesses the experience to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
