Thanks. I did wonder because, as I say, some folks down your way keep saying and thinking that "wouldn't it be nice to manage my own funds". No one has really told them that there isn't any money or fund to tap into, or spin out so that individuals can manage their own money.
If anyone has a statement of account (and wouldn't mind sharing it on a very confidential basis) I woud love to see one for the amusement value along with the educational comparison with our own former CPP statements.

Not being an American, can anyone tell me, do Americans get some sort of statment from the government periodically telling them that "this" is what you have contributed and "that" is what you will get (perhaps under a variety of circumstances (retiring at 60, 63, 65 etc? In other words, someething that looks like a statement from your broker saying that this is what you "own"?
I am wondering this because periodically, I see Americans calling for the right to manage their own SS monies - as if there were actually any money there to invest(!).
We in Canada used to get a statement like that every 5 years but no longer do because our provinces, where the net CPP receipts were invested, reneged and effectively defaulted. Now the surplus is invested in an independent CPP Investment Board which the government cannot touch and use to cover any deficits (as yours does now). That means that on a 'cash-in, cash-out' basis, the CPP is fully solvent with an actual investment buffer with real assets in case of a prolonged recession or something.

Wow... I don't know how I feel about the solution to this problem. I am not an advocate of raising taxes and I am also not recommending women to get private security. That is equivalent to telling people to hire private security that follows them around in case of an accident so they can take the report in case it happens on a weekend. It is an unreasonable request and the government and that county need to do a better job at appropriating funds and ensuring the safety of the citizens. That could have easily been a child or even a man in trouble. It's not about the gender of the victim, it's the fact that there was no one available in the time of crisis. What message are they conveying to criminals? Commit crimes on the weekend because there will be no one to intervene. They have to do better. It's unacceptable!

P.S. I love the post!!

On the whole, it seems like a fairly healthy diet, so not really a problem there. But, yes, it's a huge ball of pseudo-science, a textbook example of the appeal-to-nature fallacy.

In addition to the broad arguments above, there's no empirical reason to emulate the prehistoric diet. Fads like this always lean on the cartoon fantasy of a robust, noble savage, but I'm skeptical that pre-agricultural humans were healthier than we are today, by almost any measure. Proponents of the diet skip blithely from "this is what our ancestors ate" to "so this is what we should eat."

(Not to mention that, in most ways, the Paleo diet bears no resemblance to the way in which our ancestors ate.)
