Map of the day– maternity leave version

Accompanying a nice Stephanie Coontz NYT essay on how efforts at gender equality have stalled:

 

I don’t even know what to say about this.  Or, I’m pretty sure that plenty of other countries manage to have robust economies with reasonable maternity leave policies.  Like with many things, we’re not in a vacuum and shouldn’t be ignoring international evidence, but to listen to skeptics, more generous maternity leave policies would surely submarine the economy.
