Giuliani and 9/11

Rudy Giuliani certainly seems to be doing well in the race for the Republican nomination for president and he is doing his best to convince Republican voters that he is the only one who can beat Hillary Clinton (though it is still not clear to me exactly why that should be). Anybody who has seen Giuliani speak in his effort for president knows that he uses “9/11″ so much that it is practically like a verbal tic. Should Giuliani get the nomination, though, I really think that this will be his downfall. Giuliani certainly deserves credit for the strong leadership he showed in rallying NYC and the nation in the immediate aftermath while Bush was seemingly AWOL, but the evidence is now quite copious that Giuliani was neglectful before the actual attack. Just try a google search on Giuliani 9/11 and see what pops up. The truth is, though, that these facts have received little attention from the mainstream media. Should Giuliani actually receive the Republican nomination for president, though, he is incredibly ripe for being swift-boated on the matter. Karl Rove had the great insight on attacking your opponent at his supposed strength and it certainly did wonders on John Kerry. I think the damage would be similarly great to Giuliani, especially if the newsmedia decides to really run with it. Just imagine a 60-second ad based on this video from the many disgruntled NYC firefighters.
