The mainstream view on Iraq

The latest Fox news poll shows that a solid majority of Americans, 58%, favor withdrawing Americans within a year (31% gradually over a year + 27% by the end of this year).  Additionally, a good 2/3rds of Americans think we are not capable of preventing a Civil War from breaking out. Clearly, withdrawing the troops from Iraq is a very, very mainstream political view.  When will media finally admit as much and stop referring to “the anti-war left” and such?  For that matter, what are the chances Fox news will pay attention to their own poll.

CNN’s “liberal bias”

One of the most annoying things I encounter from students, especially the Fox news fans, is the mistaken belief that CNN is a “liberal” network and that the conservative Fox news, is simply an appropriate balance to the liberal CNN.  The only actual evidence that CNN has a liberal bias is that conservative pundits, especially those at Fox news, make that claim on a regular basis.  That's using the term “evidence” pretty loosely.  A great example of how CNN reporters are just creatures of Washington spin (which the Republicans are much better at than the Democrats) can be found in this post.  Speaking to a political analyst, CNN Anchor Chuck Roberts, asked:

“How does this factor into the Lieberman/Lamont contest? And might some
argue, as some have, that Lamont is the al Qaeda candidate?
” (emphasis mine)

The shameless Dick Cheney could have hardly done this better himself.  Cheney, has, of course, been running around referring to Lamont's victory as a win for Al Qaeda.  If there's been a more shameful Vice-President in our nation's history, this history major certainly does not know about it.
