Untouchables Politics

Joe Lieberman is just hopelessly out of touch with reality.  He keeps on talking about bipartisanship as if it is an end in and of itself.  It is not.  If bipartisanship helps you compromise and create good public policy then it is good.  If bipartisanship amounts to going along with bad policy so you can appear “moderate” and “bipartisan,” it is a bad thing.  Then bipartisanship is not of service to your party or your country.  Lieberman's bipartisanship amounts to rolling over, urinating, and exposing your belly to the alpha wolf (the current version of “bipartisanship” in the U.S. Congress)

The way the Republicans operate in Washington now reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite movies, the Untouchables.  Sean Connery's character says, “You wanna know how you do it? Here's how, they pull a knife, you pull a
gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the
morgue. That's the Chicago way.”  Joe Lieberman has been bringing a knife to a gun fight and Republicans have been more than happy to accommodate him.

I would say “good riddance” but his self-delusion and egomania mean that we're stuck with his independent candidacy until someone (Bill Clinton?) can put him in his place.  Of course, if George Bush told him not to run, I'm sure he'd happily step aside.

Lieberman, bring knife to gun fight.  Republicans have mastered this.  Like the Omega wolf rolling over to show his belly to the alpha.
